"Inglourious Basterds" and Evil Nazi's
Basterds' was a very unsurprising film. The narrative structure, scintillating dialogue, and wall to wall violence was something we have seen before at the hands of Tarentino. It is a formula that has worked before, and works just as well in 1945. Another thing that works, maybe just as well as Tarentino's bloody style, is Brad Pitt. Specifically, Brad Pitt playing the part of a lunatic. His success in that capacity overshadows his normal acting roles. MATM did the research.
Above all Tarentino delivers not gore and bloodshed, but characters. A Jewish renegade plotting her revenge, a hero soldier too big for his britches, and, among many others, an apache red neck in charge of a special forces unit. What we loved most was not watching them kill, but sitting down, eating, or having a glass of milk. Simple actions built complex characters, one of which in particular was particularly vile. So much so that he overshadowed one of the biggest villains in history. MATM carried out the poll.
