"Up In the Air": Ten Million Is My Lucky Number

Was "Up In the Air" about the pain of losing your job, or the satisfaction of maintaining relationships, or neither?  For those in the pool of "newly employable workers" the message could be one of hardship.  Maybe for others it took on a zen like quality, as no real conclusions were reached in the end.  Here we are concerned with objectivity, and at its core "Up In the Air" was about firing people.  It  wasn't an instructional guide, but it came pretty close.  MATM finished the flowchart.

We have seen George Clooney in a number of roles: a spy, a theif, an astronaut.  In "Up In the Air" we see one of his most convincing performances: as an aging business traveler.  It is a role he fits perfectly.  His silver hair and borderline trim figure could belong to anyone you see in first class.  This is not a given.  If Brad Pitt sat down next to you at 30,000 feet he could very well be your alter ego.  Unfortunately not every job is this easy for Mr. Clooney.  It turns out that having an oscar doesnt automatically make you a good motivational speaker.  MATM has the report card.
